I am Steven
McIlwaine, a GCSE Student at Cromer High School, and I thought
that I'd just email you and say thank you for your help. Your
programme "Watercolours with Charles Evans" is the start to my
day, and all the tips and techniques have helped me a lot for my
Art GCSE. My final exam is next week, and I now feel confident
enough to create a watercolour art piece for it.
Thank you so very much for everything. You've helped me and many
others without realising it.
Yours Thankfully,
Steven McIlwaine (16)
Most mornings from
10:30am to 11:00am on Channel 251 Sky TV - your production Water
Colour Painting with Charles Evans is aired. I find this a
lovely programme combining both art, local scenery and history
which is very well presented.
Frank G Ross, Aberdeenshire
I just wanted to
say that I am a recent viewer to your watercolours programme on
Discovery and am completely hooked. I record them daily and play
back after work. I find them absolutely brilliant and very
inspirational.
I love the down-to-earth approach that you give to the topic and
this makes it seem less scary to try and have a go. I also
really appreciate the interesting and beautiful places you bring
to the audiences attention and I think you should be paid a
bonus from the North East Tourist Boards for the great job you
do in inspiring us to visit and explore for ourselves!
I'm saving my pennies to do one of your courses and currently
are attempting you learn to paint from your example (although I
seem to be throwing a lot of paper away at the moment).
Keep up the good work and if you run out of inspiration where
you are, then visit the beautiful Isle of Wight where I live. We
would all be very pleased to welcome you.

I spent the bank
holiday weekend with my son Nick (16) and daughter Kate (12) up
in Northumberland, checking out for myself the beautiful
countryside and coastline of the area. Northumberland is a place
I had never visited before but being an avid viewer of your
"Watercolours with Charles Evans" series on the Discovery
channel, I just felt I had to check things out for myself.
The whole weekend was to culminate in attending your Open Day at
Acklington and I felt very excited at being able to book myself
onto some taster lessons. The weekend couldn't some soon enough
- I was like a kid waiting for Christmas!
The day itself was fabulous! I had wondered whether my two
offspring would enjoy it as much as I but I needn't have
worried. They watched in amazement as your paintings sprung to
life under their very eyes. Painting for me is a fairly recent
thing but they have both been supportive of me, boosting my
confidence when needed, so it was nice for them that they were
both able to 'have a go' with the oil paints and try it for
themselves. We all had a super day with you all and I feel
priviledged to have been there at your very first open day, and
what I hope will be the first of many.
Would you please pass on my sincerest thanks to all involved in
the day at Acklington - not forgetting the catering crew who
provided endless drinks and nibbles throughout the day.
I'm now off to practice - I have your new Quick and Easy
Watercolour Pencils to take me through the autumn evenings.
On behalf of my
daughter and son in law, Jackie & Sid Ward "the
organiser of the
Valentine Ball Friday 2006" I would like to say thanks you ever
so much for the auction gift and to your for sending it.
The evening was a
huge success and with yours and many others kindness and
generosity the sum raised for Breast Cancer Care on the night
was an amazing £7109. We are truly grateful to you; this will
help so many people

I was in the
audience on Sat 22nd May at South Shields Library and
wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the demonstration. My
friend and I kept saying "yes that's how we want to paint" Its
was truly inspiring.
Imagine my
delight when I received a phone call from the library to say Id
won the painting of Lindsifarne Castle! Its being framed as I
write, so thank you so much for the day and for my wonderful
memento of your demonstration.A Brown, Tyne &

I know you must
have heard this all before but many, many thanks for such a
delightful and informative evening at the rt Group meeting this
week. What a change! I think we've all learned not to take
ourselves too seriously and to jolly well get on with it and
have fun.
We hope you arrived home safely and that you felt it was all
worth your while , Again many, many thanks.

Just wanted to
thank you for such an entertaining evening on Wednesday. Such an
interesting and amusing time with lots of positive comments -
one member said that at her art group the next day, they were
still on a high. So well done you! Everyone enjoyed buying
all the goodies too! Hope your journey back was OK and
look forward to seeing you again we hope one day.

I want to say a
huge thank you for the confidence booster course last week. I
think it took until Sunday before I came back down to Earth
enough for my feet to touch the ground!
I learned so much,
had huge fun and feel so much better about my paintings that I
believe its the best value for money I ever had. I loved your
teaching - you made it all so easy. Looking forward to seeing
the new series on TV soon.

Thank you for a great weekend at your studio in Acklington -
even the weather was perfect. Please thank your
mother for her hospitality - she is a delightful lady and I'm
glad I got to meet her. Your infectious enthusiasm for
painting has been my salutation through some difficult time in
the past few years. its really up to me now to put all your
excellent tuition into practice.

Thank you for another brilliant workshop and also for the
beautiful painting which is so reminiscent of my Cumbrian
holidays. My persistence is at last paying off and I'm
beginning to feel slightly less in awe of my paintbrush and
paints. Until I have completely mastered all your techniques
you'll have to put up with me popping up time after time -
anyway I just love the feeling of getting away from it all at
Acklington. Nice to catch up with your mum again and meet
Brenda.

I think I can state that
yesterday workshop was the best our group had ever had, you
gave such good advice, and in stages, so that we could
absorb it. I had a few phone calls in the evening and their
comments about your patience and expertise were wonderful.
How we wish you lived in Hampshire, we'd be on your doorstep
every day.

Thank you for a
lovely days' painting on Sunday. I could see you were
struggling with a sore throat but you never fail to connect with
is all. As I left Acklington the sunset was breathtaking and I
could hardly tear myself away from a place of such high energy.
Looking forward to painting with you again

Just a wee
note to say thank you for a great week at Bamburgh. Mary and
I found everything to our liking including the company.
Hopefully we shall meet again somewhere or sometime but until
then we send our best wishes to you.
Mary and Dug
It took me days to "come to" after the trip as I kept
re-tracing me steps over these mountains.
Again I had a fabulous time and have bored everyone I have
met in going over details of how wonderful it was!

What a lovely four days I had today at your art course.
It isn't until Its all over that you realise how much you
have learnt. It was great fun even though the weather wasn't
to kind to us on Thursday. Elaine, Sharon and I have decided
to paint once a week - with all your instruction books
at hand of course.
Hopefully
your few days back at home will be restful even though you
are doing classes locally.
Once again a huge thank you for all the fun and pleasure your
course gave me

Once again thank you for a wonderful holiday and all the
extras! Thank you also
to Jan for booking such great hotels - treated like the lady
I am! I have seen
the photos on memory stick as it was a large file, much too
big for CDs. I have
loved looking through them again and also will frame one
painting.
Dorothy
I just wanted to say thank you once again for such a
fabulous time. I so enjoyed every moment and want you to
know how much I appreciated all the effort you out in making
it all so easy. The door to door service and all the lovely
locations you took us to and of course PARIS including the
ferry over.
I hope to join
you next year on one for your holidays or workshops.
Till then
take care
P.S Have thrown away sponges!

Thank you so
much for all the time and commitment you put into making the
Bamburgh painting holiday such a success. It was a first
class learning experience and you can be pleased that it was
socially successful as we 12 complete strangers also got on
well together, had fun and made friendships which I hope
will continue. If you will put up with me I have already
booked for Whitby 2007 and hope I can remember the shadow
colours for then!
It was great!
The beach at Bamburgh in the sun will be an everlasting
memory as will the rain at Craster.
Fondest
regards and best wishes for the coming year

Thank you very
much for a most enjoyable holiday, you have really motivated me.
Sorry I didn't say goodbye to Brett, lovely to have met you.

Thanks for a
really super holiday at Bamburgh last wee. I had my photos
developed and they include a one of Marjory. Id be
grateful if you'd "name & address2 the enclosed envelope as I'm
sure she'd like to have it to remind her of her fans at
Lindisfarne.

Thank you for a
wonderful, fantastic holiday in Bamburgh. I have never
experienced a course with such a strong dedication to bringing
out the best in everyone involved, and making sure that no
matter what circumstances prevailed we all had an incredible and
productive time.
Charlie, your fire, passion, fun and teaching were an amazing
experience. You say you only like to teach those who cant
paint....with you anyone can paint. My techniques at the moment
may be scattered and unpredictable - I shall practice. With
your voice in my head my hand will obey the master No more
wayward brushes.
Eilean Bentley
Just a line to
say how very much I enjoyed our week in Bamburgh. I know it was
only 5 days but the amount of pleasure I had, food I ate, drinkI
imbibed and work I completed made it seem like a week. Thank you
for all your hard work and encouragement.

Magazine Articles |

I have just
recently become a member of SAA and I'm delighted with PAINT
magazine. I love all the useful tips and lessons illustrated. I
have owned a box of watercolour pencils for 3 years (hardly
used). I didn't know you could brush the points and obtain such
truly watercolour results. I completed you exercise which I
enjoyed and look forward to painting some more of your series.
I have only just
started to paint watercolours and find it a rewarding challenge.
I am 73 year of age but was very surprised to obtain an A level
(B) at our local night school at the age of 70. I painted in
oils at the time although I love oil. I've always wanted to be
successful with watercolours. They say you are never to old to
learn.

Although I have previously won a 1st in one of the competitions
which really boosted my confidence in my work and was a very
nice experience, it's not all about winning. Charles Evans Art
is the only artist website I know who offers a free regular
online competition with a chance of winning a decent prize.
Besides being a very entertaining presenter with a sense of
humour akin to my own, he is also in his literature and
especially DVDs and TV broadcasts, so very generous with sharing
his knowledge and encouraging us with simple techniques to
practise.
Watching Charlie is never boring because he can literally knock
out a good painting very quickly in one fell swoop, almost every
time.
It was only since regularly practising these techniques that my
own work became much bolder and more effective, although my best
one is always my next one. Before that, I reached a certain
stage and was going round in circles. What's more important is
that I find it much more satisfying and enjoyable.
Charlie must really encourage thousands of people, perhaps lots
like myself to whom "art" does not come very naturally but has
to be learned (often at a very slow pace).
The regular competition to me is something to aim for and gives
me an incentive to practise lots in areas that are often my weak
spots.
When the competition is drawn I can then compare and see how
other entrants have approached and tackled the subjects which
again usually inspires me greatly.
I'm sure the majority of people feel the same as I do so on
behalf of myself and others, "thanks so much Charlie and to
Brett and others who must do so much behind the scenes."

I hope
you don't mind me writing to you. My husband and I want to say
how thrilled we were with the DVD's & books of yours that we
have recently purchased from the SAA. Your vitality, enthusiasm
an obvious love of life and the painting that you are doing are
a great inspiration. We are now recording your programmes on Sky
TV and enjoy them all, now there are not enough enough hours in
the day but I try to do some Quick & Clever exercise each day
and look forward to starting on your Watercolour course for
beginners this week.
