Cheddar Gorge & Mendip Hills Holiday |
 Paint in the stunning Cheddar Gorge and beautiful Mendip Hills
with Charles Evans, where you will learn how to paint
watercolour landscapes. All abilities welcome. The tuition is 5
days and is very hands on. You will be in a group of no more
than 12 guests. Please bring paints and materials. Some boards
and easels will be available for use.
The holiday takes place at Compton House which is a glorious
grade 2 listed, Georgian Hotel complete with function room,
drawing room, conservatory and a beautiful garden with lovely
views across the Somerset levels. You will be able to paint in
the fantastic Cheddar Gorge and on top of the Mendip Hills with
a selection of views over the Somerset levels to Glastonbury,
Exmoor, the Bristol Channel and across to the Welsh Mountains,
as well as quaint Somerset villages and gorges.
 Compton House has 6 bedrooms all with en-suite, many with four
poster beds and period features/furniture. There is plenty of
material for any artist to paint inside and out in this lovely
hotel. There are many spots in the good sized garden where you
can paint either the garden or the views across the Somerset
levels. Set in the historic medieval town of Axbridge which in
itself has many places to paint.
There are 12 places available on the holiday and there is an
equally comfortable hotel within yards of Compton House called
Oak House Hotel which is actually in the market square. All
rooms are en-suite and there is a beautiful licensed restaurant
and bar. All activities throughout the day will take place
either at the one site at Compton House or on location and we
may stay out for the odd meal in the evening according to our
programme.
 Guests will arrive from 4pm on the Sunday, where drinks will be
served and there will be an evening meal and we will run through
the proposed itinery which will also be sent in advance of the
holiday for your reference. Painting will start at 9.30-10am and
finish at 4-4.30pm and there will be a light lunch each day.
This will either be at the hotel, a pub lunch or packed lunch
dependant on location.

Once Compton House is full, the prices for Oak House Hotel have
a £50 discount per person and £25 for non-painting partners.
Extra days can be booked, please ask for details when applying,
complete with complimentary tour of the caves and gorge. Why not
arrive a day early and soak up the atmosphere before the
painting begins. |
